ENGYS successfully hosted the User Group Meeting (UGM) 2025 on 22–23 October at The Madison in Detroit, USA, welcoming engineers, researchers, and CFD professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, share technical insights, and explore the future of open-source CFD.
The event opened with a keynote by Dr. Derwin Parkin, Senior CFD Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), titled “Beyond the Cloud: Scaling Built-Environment CFD on AWS Graviton”. His presentation explored how thermal CFD simulations in HELYX are being used to optimise airflow and cooling performance in next-generation data centres while reducing energy consumption.
Across multiple sessions, presenters shared real-world CFD applications and advancements — from design optimisation and environmental modelling to AI-driven workflows and aerodynamic studies. Discussions reflected how open-source CFD continues to evolve, offering engineers powerful tools to address increasingly complex simulation challenges with efficiency and flexibility.
The first day concluded with an ENGYS Technology Roadmap presentation by Dr. Eugene de Villiers, outlining upcoming developments in GPU computing, AI-enabled workflows, and performance-driven CFD at scale. The evening ended with a networking dinner, giving participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and connect in a more informal setting.
Day two featured hands-on training sessions for both HELYX and ELEMENTS, providing attendees with direct experience using the latest tools and workflows.
ENGYS thanks all attendees, speakers, and partners for their valuable contributions to this year’s meeting. Your participation continues to strengthen the open-source CFD community and drive innovation through CFD.
