ENGYS, a global leader in open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions, is excited to announce further advancements in developing GPU-accelerated capabilities for its flagship HELYX software, accelerated by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture. With 7 out of 10 Formula 1 teams currently relying on HELYX to optimize aerodynamics design, ENGYS continues to cement its reputation for delivering best-in-class simulation tools to motorsport’s most demanding engineering environments.
“In Formula 1 performance is everything,” says Eugene de Villiers, Managing Director of ENGYS. “The performance of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform will allow HELYX to advance its market-leading capabilities and teams to design race-winning aerodynamic packages more efficiently than ever.”
ENGYS has accelerated the integration of high-performance GPU-based solvers and advanced memory management into HELYX. Early tests have shown a 3x price/performance improvement compared to traditional CPU-based clusters for CFD workflows, with further optimizations underway.
“Accelerated Computing and AI-Physics will open new doors for motorsport’s most demanding engineering challenges,“ says Tim Costa, Senior Director CAE and CUDA-X at NVIDIA. “ENGYS tools accelerated by NVIDIA Blackwell and CUDA-X achieve exceptional performance and equip teams for breakthroughs in aerodynamics design.”
With Formula 1 teams under constant pressure to reduce simulation turnarounds and optimize aerodynamic research, HELYX GPU provides a robust, cost-effective solution for running large-scale, high-fidelity CFD analyses. Leveraging ENGYS’ open-source roots, these new developments also preserve the software’s hallmark flexibility—allowing teams to adapt, extend, and integrate HELYX with their own bespoke workflows.
“With these new NVIDIA accelerated computing architectures, we are witnessing a change of paradigm in the way CFD simulations are conceived. Having code that simply runs on GPUs is no longer sufficient: from the CFD development standpoint, we must rethink the way we program to fully take advantage of the unprecedented computational power offered by Blackwell systems.” says Stefano Oliani, Senior Core Developer at ENGYS.
